Yesterday, NEC Corporation announced that they have developed a corn-based bioplastic that conducts heat faster than stainless steel, and it aims to mass-produce the material starting in April 2008 for use in mobile phones and other portable devices. NEC also said the material could help make laptops and mobile phones thinner and lighter by eliminating the need for heat-releasing sheets or fans.

The bioplastic is expected to make electronic products more environmentally sound, while solving conventional heat release issues. Apparently, the composite is extremely environmentally friendly as it is mainly composed of biomass-based components including the binder (the biomass ratio exceeds 90 percent, excluding inorganic components such as the carbon fiber).

Since the previous release of NEC e-series, the FCC has approved the sleek black bodied NEC e373. This is a new 3G mobile phone which has been released in Italy. It has a nice black body design, although it is not as slim as other e-series. The size of the phone body measures 92 x 44 x 19.2 mm and the weight is well controlled at 90 grams.

Its display screen is only 65k colors, but it is also equipped with dual camera module for video calls. MP3 player and multimedia features are almost useless with only 32MB internal memory, especially because users are unable to get a memory card slot on his phone.

It’s a real bad design for a 3G phone. Since it support GSM triband and UTMS network, US mobile users will be able to use the phone.
